Thrift Report: Lack of Willpower Edition

Honestly, sometimes I don't know what to do with myself...

So many of my fellow vintage bloggers have declared thrifting hiatuses lately that I felt inspired to do the same. I certainly need to; I'm overrun with unlisted inventory for the shop and I've made several big "project" purchases lately for myself that I haven't tackled yet. Plus I've been so busy lately that there just hasn't been time to peruse the thrifts in that careful, leisurely way that I prefer. And it's no fun to thrift in a hurry, right?

I met my parents for lunch on Sunday in a nearby suburb. On my way home, I passed right by a thrift store that I don't get to very often. What the heck, I thought...I'll just run in and out. I'll only buy something if it's absolutely fabulous. I won't even get a cart!

You know how this ends, right?

Fifty bucks and a full car later, here's what I brought home:

That's right....two ice buckets; a milk glass plate; a cocktail set carrier; some square-based cocktail glasses; five candlesticks; two lamps; a Chinoiserie statue, and a humongous tray.

The two lamps and the statue are definitely my faves!

At least I didn't bring home the 30 pound faux bamboo mirror, the 1970s wine rack, or the rattan ottoman. I do have some restraint, I guess. Barely.

Did you do any thrifting this week?  Can't wait to see!

  1. it's always the way! 'i'll just pop in for a second' are probably the most dangerous/lucky words in a thrifter's lexicon. ;)

    1. Thanks Cheapchick! Yes, very sellable if I ever manage to get it all cleaned up, photographed and listed. :) I have SUCH a backlog it's crazy. I should be banned from thrifting!

  4. Good to hear it's a common problem to have thrifted inventory and projects waiting in the wings. I'm kinda tired of looking at them, so I suppose it's no time like the present, eh?

I can see why you had trouble leaving behind these treasures. I truly couldn't have left that trophy ice bucket behind either!

  8. I would have done the EXACT same thing if I were in your shoes, Heather.

I haven't seen any milk glass plates. I mostly have vases. By the way, I'm blaming you for one of my thrift store purchases on the blog today. Sorry. ;)

  9. If God didn't want us to thrift, she wouldn't have made thrift stores.

  10. Oh Heather! I feel for you. I am happy that I was distracted by the meet-up and did not shop as much as I usually do at Long Beach. It is impossible to stop buying though! If it is any consolation, your picks are fabulous. I adore the lamps.

    1. Thanks, Beatriz. It is definitely an addiction....although sometimes it feels like "feast or famine." When I really need inventory, I can't find it, and vice-versa.

  12. Fabulous finds! I don't know if I could have left faux bamboo behind, that is some willpower right there!

    1. Oh Marium, you would have loved that mirror. Huge and octagonal with silver faux bamboo on the outer edge and a second border of it on the inside of the mirror. It was beautiful but SO heavy - too heavy to ship - and I seriously already have five mirrors in my house that I have no place to hang. SIGH.

  14. Great finds! I feel like that always happens to me too: the times when I have the least time/money/car space/house space is when I find tons of amazing stuff! I know what it's like to have a houseful of inventory. Our spare room is pretty packed and it was a lot worse before we started selling in our antique space. Thanks for sharing! -Melissa @ Scavenger Hunt

  15. I'm laughing over the above comment on the condition of her spare room...mine is so small and is covered in lamps! I would literally panic if I had a surprise guest come into town. You found such amazing things. Im hitting my goodwill today.

    1. Oh my gosh Melissa...I should post a picture of the "lamp zone" (upgraded from "lamp shelf") in my basement. Except I would die of embarassment.

  19. the statue! Awesome! I wouldn't resist it either! Who are we kidding? If I wasnt in a bagpipe band and playing at a bajillion parades this March, I'd have broken my hiatus too! (hmmm...I have a little time on Friday...hmmm)

  20. For some reason, I can't reply to the string above - regarding the mirror, ok, you are forgiven, I know how it is! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog the other day. You mentioned that your grandma had a photo tree like the one I found...I was curious, do you know if the frames are supposed to either have glass or a backing in them? The one I have has only the metal circles. I figured I could easily cut some clear plastic if needed to protect the photos.

    1. Hmm...it's been a long time, but I am pretty sure my grandmother's had both backing and glass on each little frame. I remember thinking they were neat because they were exactly like tiny little picture frames, which makes me think they had glass.

  21. LOL! I did the same thing last week- told myself I was going in for 1 thing -just 1- and if they didn't have it I would leave. Close to $30.00 later I walked out with 7 extra items. Annnndddd.... I have so much stuff to list, it isn't even funny. Also, I have two big projects sitting in my garage half finished. It gives me peace of mind to know I'm not alone. :)

    Regardless, your finds are beautiful!!!
