Robin's Egg

Just added to the shop!

This pretty robin's egg blue lamp with a Chinoiserie-style base.

It reminds me so much of this gorgeous image of a Sarah Swanson Design space that I fell in love with a while back on Pinterest. Doesn't it look incredible with the vintage paintings?

Happy Thursday!

Wednesday Wisdom

I have always bowed down to the genius of Hemingway, and I find this quote particularly compelling in the midst of this political season. I have very strong political views, but I choose to focus on the positive aspects of my candidate and his platform, rather than spend my energies tearing down the opponent. Try tuning out the negative campaign rhetoric and focusing purely on what you believe to be positive and true. For me, it helps to mute the pre-election "noise" we're all bombarded with.

Thrift Report: More from the Stash

I'm still not 100% back in the thrifting groove. My huge summer event is over at work, finally, but now I'm catching up on everything that piled up while it was going on. Plus, my little brother is getting married in a couple of weeks and I'm still getting ready for that. I may or may not have purchased twelve dresses so far. I admit nothing.

In the meantime, this weekend I found a cardboard box I shoved into the corner of my basement a couple of months ago when I was cleaning stuff out for my yard sale. Lo and behold, it was full of thrifted stuff that I never cleaned, photographed, or listed. Kind of like Christmas in August. Also kind of scary that I could completely forget about such a ton of inventory, but that's another story.

Here's what I found!

A paperweight-sized version of Robert Indiana's iconic LOVE sculpture. The real, life-sized deal is just two miles from my house, but I love this little one, too.

A gorgeous, huge champagne bucket. I can think of about 20 uses for it besides just chilling a bottle of bubbly. Flower vase? Kindling holder next to a fireplace? Super chic wastebasket next to a desk?

There are eight of these cheery blue-ringed tumblers. I think they could go very classic and nautical, or very mod if mixed with other bright vintage dishware.

Then, there was this pretty set of three nesting sauce pans in copper with ornate brass handles. These came from a Goodwill store, believe it or not. A very unusual find for GW!

Have I featured this piece on the blog before? It's also from the stash...a vintage planter with very "arts and crafts" lines. It has the feel and look of one of the classic early American art pottery companies, but I haven't been able to identify it. If any pottery afficianados out there have any clues, let me know. It could also be 1970s Haeger for all I know...but I don't think so. :)

This was a fun little find. A New Old Stock "Jailer's Key Ring" in solid brass. Seriously...could the typography and graphics be any more 70s?  I totally want to use it. I think there's something both glam and minimalist about it, especially if it held just one or two shiny keys, but the thought of removing it from its packaging makes me sad, too. I always have that problem with NOS stuff!

Lastly, just in time for back-to-school, an apple sculpture plated in polished brass. I know a few teachers I could give this to!

And there you have the highlights from the cardboard box stashed in my basement. Clearly I need to take a look down there more often!  I hope you all have a fabulous week of thrifting and vintage-hunting!

Thrift Report

Just a few thrifted finds to showcase today, as I'm just starting to get back into the swing of things following several extremely hectic weeks!

First, this antique brass candelabrum featuring a small child (a cherub, I think):

I think it's just beautiful...very heavy and classic. It has been suggested to me, however, that the little cherub child might be...ummmm...creepy. Thoughts?

I also picked up this fab set of modern smoked crystal wine glasses:

...along with a matching set of champagne coupes:

I sold another set of the champagne coupes in my shop a while back, and it was painful to see them go, I loved them so much. Maybe finding them was a sign that I'm destined to own a set?

This brass bowl was a find from a few weeks ago; I just adore its scalloped edge!

And finally, on the kitschier end of the spectrum, check out these tropical highball glasses:

Wouldn't they be fantastic for a pool party?

I hope you all had a successful week of thrifting!  I can't wait to check out everyone else's fabulous finds at the following parties:

Wednesday Wisdom

This print of a quote by Anna Quindlen is actually a page from an old O Magazine that I ripped out of the issue and now hangs in my office.

I love the concept of allowing yourself a "clean slate."  Happy Wednesday, all. xoxo

Thrift Report: Bully Love

I'm still in the midst of my big summer program at work, so I didn't do much thrifting at ALL last week...just a quick stop at a vintage store looking for something specific. And then it happened. . .

Let me back up. It's no secret that I love bulldogs. They're furry, mushy balls of love, as far as I'm concerned.

I've known a few in my life...

The love of my life, Gus, is like a know: "business in the front; party in the back." He's beagle in the front, bulldog in the back. Bulldog body and beagle head. The biggest character I've ever met...100% bulldog in his affectionate nature and stubborness.

He's also, like most bulldogs, an expert sleeper. But I digress...

I stopped by this vintage shop looking for something I needed, and what did I spy?  This guy:

He's huge...about the size of a big watermelon. I just love him! He's dirty and his glaze is worn here and there, but he was a great price and I just couldn't resist. He'll probably end up in the shop, since -- I admit -- I have plenty of bulldog "stuff" already. Vintage bulldogs can be hard to find, though, probably due to the breed's perennial popularity, so I was just thrilled with this find.

I hope you're all enjoying these last weeks of summer. My work life will return to normal after this week, and I'll be back then with lots more vintage!
